I've been amazed at the amount of rain we had around here. Although it has rained a lot, it hasn't seemed like it's rained enough to leave all the water standing and flood so many places. We went for a short drive today and although we aren't farmers from the looks of it there appears to be many fields that won't be planted this year.
We received a call from my mother-in-law Sunday. She lives in Northern Iowa where much rain was received in a very short amount of time. The beauty shop she rents doesn't have a sump pump. The basement in the shop is completely flooded - one more step and it will reach the main floor. The sewage plant flooded in the town where Adam's aunt lives so there is no sewer available and no potable running water. Fun, huh?
It does give perspective.

Singin' in the Rain
Friday night when we got home from work, Adam had just started the grill when the rains started. Not just soft, gently falling rain, but the falling like cats & dogs (who came up with that anyway....). Our deck isn't covered & we opted to wait a few extra minutes, letting the grill warm before we put burgers on. Of course, after the major rain had passed, Kabe thought it would be fun to run on the side walk in front of our house.

Not sure if you can tell or not from this picture, but the water on the sidewalk is over the curb from the street. Really hard rain.

This was the view of the back yard. this is our fourth summer in this house & although we've seen bits of pooled water previously, this is the worst we've seen. Of course, several hours later all water had drained away in the street and in the yard.

Once Kabe had finished playing in the water he came in to change and wanted to put on his newest jammies. He is totally into Transformers right now. He was so excited when I brought these home and asked me to take a picture. He's so going to regret this someday!

Dad picked up mac & cheese for Kabe on his way home and since we were having burgers on the grill, it worked out as a great side. Once he finished modeling, Kabe helped me make it. What a great family Friday nite!

Hats and Tails
Do you ever feel like you're chasing your tail? Lately my life has been like that. Or maybe more like one of those clowns at the circus...you know, the one you see who keep chasing his hat and kicking it before he can grab it. Yep, that's our life these days. Chasing tails and kicking hats.
It's not all bad: it does have it's progress, other people benefit. On the downside, it does come slowly.
Let me take you back a few days. When I took time off a week or so ago, I did some major organization around the house. One humongous task was to delve into the bunk bed room (it's actually a day bed with a trundle, but Kabe named the room when he was three & it stuck) and get it back into a state that could be identified and even presentable. Prior to that, we had ordered Kabe a new bed & mattress. On Saturday his new bed was delivered and he is SO excited about it. His room has now been been cleaned out (do you see where this is headed, yet??) and this is his new bed -- bedding isn't available yet.

This is the newly organized bunk bed room once Kabe's room was cleaned out.

Needless to say, it's not too organized anymore! The bed will be delivered to a local charity this week -- right now the weather isn't cooperating with our open-bed truck.
Now to figure out how to decorate....something I definitely could use some help with!
